Cyber Security Seminar for SMEs

We are holding a Cyber Security seminar in conjunction with Tech OP Solutions and Gloucestershire Constabulary. The event is designed for both large and small SMEs and will take place at C11 Cyber Security and Digital Innovation Centre in Berkley, on Thursday 2 May.

The theme of the free seminar is ‘Educate. Protect. Recover’ and it is the ideal opportunity for businesses in the South Gloucestershire, Avon and Bristol areas to learn how to improve their Cyber Security.

Our recent report on the Cyber Security Landscape for SMEs in the UK today highlighted the key cyber risks that businesses are facing, and revealed that:

  • 69% of SMEs have received phishing emails in the last 12 months.
  • 68% of SMEs know someone who has had a data breach.
  • 44% of SMEs know someone who has fallen victim to a cyber intrusion
  • 59% are concerned about the possibility of a breach in the next 12 months.
  • Almost 70% of organisations don’t provide effective cyber security training for employees.
  • 42% either didn’t have or didn’t know if they had a nominated senior person responsible.

The seminar programme includes:

08.30 – 9.00      Complementary breakfast served.

09.00 – 9.05      Welcome and Introduction from C11 (Jackie Stokes).

09.05 – 10.00    Victoria Brinton from the Gloucestershire Constabulary Safer Cyber Unit will share insights into the world of social hacking, data protection and email marketing methods that aim to catch you and your staff out and let viruses in! The Police can help prevent cyber-attacks (through sessions such as this!) but it’s fundamentally down to changes in individual’s behaviour.

10.00 – 11.00     Simon Leonard from Tech OP Solutions. Simon will discuss the threat levels to your business from ransomware and ways to protect your data plus recover your business as quickly as possible. It’s not a case of if… it’s when! We’ll also get a glimpse of the dark web and how it works plus see Ransomware in action and take part in an Email Phishing Workshop.

11.00 – 11.15      Refreshment break.

11:15 – 11.30      Emailing phishing workshop results.

11.30 – 12.00     Freddy Knight, Cyber Practice Specialist, Stackhouse Poland. Freddy will be talking about Cyber liability insurance and the protection you will need from any liabilities that might arise as a consequence of a cyber-attack or breach, and for any losses your business experiences as a consequence, for example IT, legal or regulatory costs.

12:00 – 12:30    Live Q&A with Victoria Brinton, Simon Leonard and Freddy Knight.

12:30 – 14:00    Complementary lunch and networking

14:00                 Finish.
